It couldn’t be easier. It costs nothing. It takes no effort. And yet, doing this for just thirty seconds a day could be the number one strategy for cutting your risk of cancer.
It may seem too good to be true, but a world leading expert on cancer prevention insists his “Do Absolutely Nothing” plan “really could be the simplest, cheapest, most effective and by far the most natural way to protect against the Big C.”
And he’s not alone. Let’s take a closer look…
In Western countries up to 50 percent of the population will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. This contrasts with Asian and Middle Eastern countries where the figure is just one in ten.
Dr. Mohammad Khan, a leading British consultant oncologist and Principal Investigator in many pioneering research trials, thinks there could be a simple explanation for this disparity… near-infrared (NIR) light.
The Healing Power of NIR
In Asian and Middle Eastern countries, the people rise early and go outside. In the West this is unusual unless you’re commuting to work; something that occurs even less now with more people working from home, a shift inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic.
These early risers on the other side of the world enjoy the benefits of NIR light from early morning sunshine. Medical experts say their eyes then absorb this light and light-sensitive cells transmit a signal to the brain to release torrents of melatonin. This extremely powerful antioxidant mops up – or detoxifies – cancer-causing free radicals. These cell damaging molecules cause oxidative stress and not only increase the risk of cancer, but the risk of other diseases.
Those who have taken melatonin supplements at night for the relief of insomnia might be puzzled by this. Surely melatonin is a hormone released by the pineal gland when it gets dark to induce sleep and which then dissipates when it gets light in the morning.
This is still true, but thanks to groundbreaking work carried out by scientists at the University of Texas, it was discovered that 95 percent of the body’s melatonin supply is made by mitochondria, the energy producing powerhouses of the cell. Mitochondria are particularly sensitive to NIR light. Exposing them to NIR causes the mitochondria to produce substantial amounts of melatonin.
Melatonin Has Two Key Roles
It’s now understood there are two aspects to melatonin. One works as a sleep hormone while the other works as a potent antioxidant hormone that rises and falls along with the body’s natural circadian – light-dark – rhythm, with production peaking in the early morning between sunrise and 9am.
This discovery, according to Dr. Khan, “has completely transformed our understanding of this hormone, and its potential health benefits.”
Reduce Cancer Risk 80 Percent?
Although more research is needed to confirm the initial findings, the research so far, he explains, is “highly compelling” with the potential to reduce cancer risk by a remarkable 80 percent. He therefore believes “we should all make time every morning to bathe in the healing light of the sun.”
As little as thirty seconds is needed on a cloudless day, rising to 30 minutes when it’s overcast. Since plants and trees reflect NIR, walking among greenery would be ideal. Most of this light spectrum is blocked by glass, so if you can’t get outside open a window and let the light wash over your face.
The Ultimate Detox
This isn’t to say we should abandon other cancer-prevention strategies such as to quit smoking, reduce alcohol consumption, lose excess weight, and adopt a healthier diet. Bad lifestyle habits increase free radicals and undo the detoxification benefits of NIR light.
As Dr. Khan explains: “As a general rule, activities which generate oxidative stress would undo the benefits of antioxidant detox processes, but it is still better to have the benefits of detox such as NIR light even if some of it is offset by lifestyle choices than not having it at all.”
He finished by saying, “If this theory can be scientifically proven, then early morning sunlight exposure will come to be recognized as the most powerful – and easily the cheapest and simplest – ultimate detox plan in history.
“While we are waiting for those studies to commence, I believe the evidence thus far points to the benefits of NIR light and that it is in everyone’s best interests to catch as little as 30 seconds of the morning sun as early as they possibly can.”
This research doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. For centuries folk healers have turned to the sun for its healing qualities. And while basking in some sunlight is decidedly a good idea, you can increase your NIR light exposure in another way… with a sauna.
NIR saunas have been a tool used by numerous alternative doctors for decades for both preventing and treating cancer.
Over 2,000 years ago, the famous Greek physician Parmenides said, “Give me the power to create fever, and I will cure any disease.” Cancer clinics in Germany and Mexico are putting this principle to use. They routinely treat patients with hyperthermia, where the body is exposed to high temperatures. High temperatures can kill cancer cells, usually without damage to normal tissues.
Most of the German cancer clinics that I’ve visited use both hyperthermia and infrared saunas for their patients, and so do many of the Mexican clinics. Infrared saunas provide a form of whole-body hyperthermia that boosts your health in many ways.
In an article in the Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, Lawrence Wilson, M.D., writes, “If I were to single out one method to combat cancer, it is the sauna. It assists removal of chemical toxins and heavy metals, increases oxygenation, enhances the immune system, and reduces the radiation burden in the body.”
Of course, in addition to NIR light, there’s also far-infrared light (FAR). FAR light has longer wavelengths and is closer to the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum, while NIR light is closest in wavelength to visible light.
Infrared Treatment Shrinks Tumor Volumes 86 Percent in 30 Days
In a clinical study published in the Journal of Cancer Science and Therapy, scientists studied infrared light’s effects on human cancer cells in vitro and on cancer cells in mice.
In the studies, the research team used FAR light and hyperthermia both together and alone.
FAR light therapy reduced tumor volumes 86 percent in 30 days. The tumor-suppressing effects were seen with and without high temperatures (hyperthermia), even at temperatures as low as 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
For what it’s worth, according to the experts, both FAR light and NIR light have healing benefits. Some believe that FAR light is better at removing toxins while NIR light is better for pain relief and healing, but this is based on anecdotal evidence as far as I can tell.
How to Use Infrared Saunas
If you’re already in good health, a 30-minute sauna session three or more times a week will do. Or if you’re trying to heal a specific health condition, some doctors prescribe daily or even multiple sessions each day.
You can try an infrared sauna at a local health club, spa, or massage therapist. A typical fee is $30-$45 per 30-minute session. You can also purchase one yourself. There are numerous home saunas available for sale in a variety of sizes.
